All routes"Deal under" is CheapFly's guidance threshold for a great return economy fare in CAD, including taxes, based on historical fare patterns. It is not a live price. Fares change constantly; always confirm on the booking site.
Edmonton’s cheapest flights are usually to the sun, Las Vegas and other Canadian cities, and competition at YEG is heating up as Porter and Flair expand. Watch for the best fares in mid-January to February, late spring and the fall, and compare Calgary when you are heading to Europe or Asia.
Quick answer

- Cheapest months: mid-January to February, late April to early June, and September to November.
- Best-value routes: Cancún, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Puerto Vallarta, Toronto and Vancouver.

- Alternative: Calgary for long-haul trips, about three hours down Highway 2.
Airlines and where they fly
WestJet runs a large operation at YEG, flying across Canada, to US cities, and to a wide range of winter sun destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean. For summer 2026 it also launched Edmonton’s first nonstop to Reykjavík, a handy stepping stone to Europe. Air Canada links Edmonton with its hubs and is adding a seasonal Montego Bay route from December 2026.
The newer competition is what makes Edmonton interesting for deal hunters. Porter flies jets east from YEG and announced its first Alberta international routes for winter 2026–27, to Phoenix, Las Vegas, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos. Flair has been building up Edmonton too, including the return of a Cancún nonstop this winter. Canadian North connects the city with the North.
Heads up: New routes often launch with introductory fares, and new competitors can trigger matching sales from incumbents. Edmonton is seeing exactly that this winter, so keep watching sun fares even after you think prices have settled.
Cheapest times to fly from Edmonton
Edmonton follows a typical Prairie pattern. Winter sun is the big seller, so prices spike at Christmas, New Year and the February school break, then ease in late January and again from April.
| Period | What to expect from YEG |
|---|---|
| Mid-January to February | Sun deals outside Family Day week |
| March | Spring-break highs for Mexico and Hawaii |
| Late April to early June | Good value to the US, Europe and domestic |
| July–August | Peak summer pricing |
| September to November | Strong fall value; early-season sun sales |

Best-value routes from YEG
Winter sun is the main event. Cancún, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Punta Cana and Montego Bay all have seasonal service, and the extra Porter and Flair capacity this winter should keep fares competitive. Las Vegas and Phoenix are quick, frequently discounted escapes; read our Las Vegas guide for what a good fare looks like.
Domestically, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver and Kelowna regularly go on sale where several airlines overlap. For Europe, the summer Reykjavík nonstop is worth a look, especially if you want to add a stop in Iceland before continuing on.
Pro tip: If you want to visit both Iceland and mainland Europe, compare a separate Edmonton–Reykjavík ticket with a one-stop ticket through Calgary or Toronto. Separate tickets carry more risk, so leave a generous connection buffer.
Nearby airports that can save you money
Edmonton’s main alternative is Calgary. YYC has far more nonstop flights to Europe and Asia, including WestJet’s 787 network, so long-haul trips are often cheaper from there. Red Deer has very limited service and rarely helps.
US border airports are a long drive from Edmonton, so they seldom make sense. Our guide to flying from US border airports explains how to compare the full cost if you are already near the border.
Getting to YEG without wasting money
The airport sits south of the city near Leduc, so taxis and rideshares are pricey. The cheapest option is the Capital Line LRT to Century Park, then ETS Route 747 to the terminal. Route 747 charges a separate airport fare; at the time of writing, the City of Edmonton lists it at about $6 one way, so check before you ride.
For longer trips, compare airport parking against the transit fare and off-site lots near the airport.
Tips for YEG
- Book sun trips for late January, late April or November.
- Price Europe and Asia from Calgary as well as Edmonton.
- Compare package deals for Mexico and the Caribbean against flight-only fares.
- Check whether bags are included; low-cost and basic fares can look cheaper than they are.
Bottom line
Edmonton is becoming a more competitive airport, with Porter and Flair adding pressure on WestJet and Air Canada. Fly in the shoulder seasons, compare Calgary for long-haul trips, and sign up for free deal alerts to catch the next sun sale.
